I like it for the fact it is a fair teaching tool. I DON'T like it because it was expensive for what it offers. The illustrations are small, not even full page (and it is a tiny little paper booklet, NOT a book). I thought it would be more botanical in nature, when it is more about creating art. A friend gave me this delightful book as a gift. The author is obviously an accomplished nature artist. She provides a lot of information about all aspects of her drawings and paintings from composition to specific details about the subjects she has chosen to draw. In addition, Paula Kuitenbrouwer provides many intriguing and relevant philosophical insights which are deeply thought provoking.
I have a plaque outside my house which says "Find Beauty In All Things"; Ms. Kuitenbrouwer has done just that. I highly recommend this gem of a book as a gift or as a source for personal meditation and inspiration. Maybe it will prompt us to start studying, drawing, and understanding the beauty of the natural world and its importance in our lives.
P. Kuitenbrouwer's lovely drawings and friendly and insightful text are not only beautiful to the senses. Her reverence of the natural world and her patient observation and detail inspire me to slow down for a moment so I don't miss the beauty and meaning in my own environment. I recommend this little book highly--it would also make a nice gift for anyone who loves nature.
I really enjoyed this delightful book of beautiful illustrations and rich descriptions. It is clear the artist/author, Ms. Kuitenbrouwer, has a real affinity for the natural world and a talent for capturing her observations. Each illustration is comprised of a meaningful composition and beautifully executed details. The accompanying written descriptions are thoughtful, and full of intriguing facts and insightful metaphors. While reading this book, I felt an unfolding of contemplation and meditation as the pressures of daily life melted away, just as if I had taken a walk in the woods.
I am now looking forward to sharing this book with friends and family as a lovely gift.
Paula Kuitenbrouwer is a superb and mindful artist whose work reminds me of Beatrix Potter's. Her detailed and beautiful works capture nature's spirit, variety and loveliness. I love this book because Paula teaches us about nature, her artistic
method, natural observation, religion, art history and how to look ourselves. I am very happy to have Paula's nature works in my home as they enrich my life.
